This guide explains how to install the ScribeLabs AI Chrome extension manually (before it is listed on the Chrome Web Store).

We've written this guide in a step-by-step format, so no technical background is required.

The extension lets you:

  • Auto-fill KDP book forms from your ScribeLabs AI publishing queue.
  • See your publishing queue in a popup while you work on Amazon KDP.
  • Optionally contribute anonymous market data (BSR, reviews, prices) while you browse Amazon, which improves niche research for everyone.
1. Requirements
  • Google Chrome (or a Chromium browser: Edge, Brave, Opera). Version 110+ recommended.
  • A ScribeLabs AI account at https://app.scribelabsai.com.
2. Download the extension
Download the ZIP file named something like scribelabs-publishing-bridge-1.0.0.zip from https://scribelabsai.com/scribelabs-publishing-bridge-1.0.0.zip
Save the ZIP somewhere you will remember, example: your Downloads folder.
3. Unzip it
  1. Find the downloaded ZIP file.
  2. Right-click → Extract All… (Windows) or double-click (Mac) to unzip it.
  3. You should end up with a folder (called scribelabs-chrome-extension) that directly contains manifest.json.
4. Install Extension into Chrome Browser
  1. Open Chrome and go to: chrome://extensions (type it into the address bar and press Enter).
  2. Turn on Developer mode using the toggle in the top-right corner.
  3. Click the “Load unpacked” button (top-left).
  4. In the file picker, select the folder that contains manifest.json (the folder from Step 3 — select the folder itself, do not open it).
  5. The ScribeLabs AI card now appears in your extensions list. ✅
5. Get your API token
The extension talks to your ScribeLabs AI account using a API token.
  1. Log in at https://app.scribelabsai.com.
  2. Open Settings, then click API Tokens in the settings menu (alongside Profile, and Security).
  3. Type a name (e.g. Chrome Extension) and click Create Token.
  4. Copy the token immediately, it is shown only once and will not be displayed again.
6. Connect the extension
  1. Click the extension's icon in the toolbar, then ⚙ Extension Settings at the bottom of the popup. (Or right-click the icon → Options.)
  2. Confirm the API URL is https://app.scribelabsai.com/api/v1 (no / at the end of link)
  3. Paste your API token into the API Token field.

  4. Click Test connection. You should see “Connected as you@email.com.”

  5. Click Save.

green dot in the popup header means you're connected. A red dot means the URL or token is wrong.
7. Using it
Auto-fill a KDP book
  1. In ScribeLabs AI, add a finished project to your Publishing Queue (it must be in the queued state — waiting to be published).
  2. Go to https://kdp.amazon.com and start creating/editing a paperback (the Title Setup or Pricing page).
  3. Click the extension icon → ✨ Auto-Fill from Queue.
  4. The extension fills the title, subtitle, author, description, keywords, price, and royalty option. Filled fields flash with a blue outline, and a summary card appears in the top-right.
  5. Review every field, then submit on KDP as normal.
The extension never clicks “Publish” for you — you always review and submit manually.

Amazon's layout changes often; if a field isn't filled, enter it by hand.

Market-data contribution (optional) While you browse normal

Amazon product and search pages, the extension can send anonymous market data (BSR, review counts, prices) back to ScribeLabs AI to improve niche research.

This only runs once you've connected a token, and it never collects personal information. (See the privacy section in the listing.)

8. Updating the extension manually

Until the extension is accepted on the chrome extension marketplace, you will need to update this extension manually whenever we release a new update.

  1. Download the new ZIP and unzip it, replacing the old folder's contents (keep the same folder location to avoid re-pointing Chrome).
  2. Go to chrome://extensions and click the ↻ reload icon on the ScribeLabs AI card.
If you put the new files in a different folder, click Load unpacked again and select the new folder, then remove the old entry.
9. Troubleshooting
⚠️Problem: Red dot / “No API token configured.”

💡Fix: Open Settings, paste your token, click Test connection, then Save.

⚠️Problem: “Invalid or expired token.”
💡Fix: The token was revoked or mistyped. Generate a new one in Settings → API Tokens and paste it again.

⚠️Problem: “No items in queue” when auto-filling
💡Fix: The project must be in the queued state in your Publishing Queue. Drafts and already-submitted books are skipped.

⚠️Problem: Fields not filling on KDP
💡Fix: Amazon changed their form. Re-run auto-fill; fill any missing field manually and report it to support.

⚠️Problem: Extension disappeared after restart
💡Fix: The unpacked folder was moved/deleted. Re-extract the ZIP and Load unpacked again.

⚠️Problem: “Manifest / could not load” error
💡Fix: You selected the wrong folder. Select the folder that directly contains manifest.json.

⚠️Problem: Nothing happens on amazon.com
💡Fix: Data contribution only runs after you've connected a token. This is optional and does not affect auto-fill.
10. Removing the extension
Go to chrome://extensions, find ScribeLabs AI — Publishing Bridge, and click Remove

You can also delete your API token in Settings → API Tokens.

Manual installation is intended for early access. Once the extension is published on the Chrome Web Store, you'll be able to install it in one click and receive automatic updates
